Why do I prefer spending more time on Youtube than Facebook ?

Facebook is a social network and Youtube is video search engine.

Every time I visit Facebook. I get three brackets of updates
1) Life Events (Marriage, Birth, Anniversaries, Travels)
2) People and brands selling stuff.
3) News (Maybe because I am subscribed to more number of them).

I don`t get to see more than this, the worst part of it is that all that information is shoved down to me and nothing of which I TRULY care of. I think this may be the most pessimistic way of looking at Facebook, but the user experience is dying down. We all have to admit it, there is something wrong with Facebook.

Youtube gives me answers and Facebook gives me questions

Youtube has replaced my Google Search for me. Video storytelling or answers appeal far more than text (Google Text Search).  Although, It may not be the fastest way of getting an answer.
I do get recommendations based on my history of videos but that's something which is worth the time. This keeps me invested in Youtube because that's something which is not shoved to me but instead something which I have asked for.

Whereas Facebook gives me questions, it gives me questions like, why, what is this person or brand doing? It stuns a person with nuisance curiosity or stalking (Maybe the other word) to describe it.

Videos search is easier on Youtube than on Facebook.

To be fair to Facebook, I tried searching for videos on Facebook first and then on Youtube.
Well, I didn't go well as expected. I went ahead and then did the same thing on Youtube.
Results were far better and I got what I wanted within seconds.

What can Facebook learn from Youtube?

Since Facebook has started shifting its focus on video content and making Facebook a video-centric social network. It has a long way to go for indexing content and making in searchable. Facebook has its own problem regarding privacy of the videos, but so does youtube.

Facebook Page - a product introduced long back has only got cosmetics changes and the base product has always been the same. Facebook pages products need to merge with video and then we can understand the true potential of going the video way. However, Facebook Live merge is not a merge.

Is Facebook Live a threat to Youtube?

All the points mentioned above, Facebook is smart enough to know them. To take Youtube head on, was never the option. So they introduced Facebook Live. Although it is at a very nascent stage to understand the real potential, Although I think Facebook Live has created great opportunities for the people to create and distribute their content.

Anyway, I personally spend time on both. however, unequally it may be.

Why Game of Thrones is different ?

Game of thrones is now a worldwide sensation and master piece written by George RR Martin. George RR Martin wrote this book around 1996  ( yep 20 years). Before that, he started as a poor boy who sold stories to make a living. He wrote stories which about mystical kingdoms about turtles.
He used to kill those turtles frequently in those stories. Now we know where all the kills in the GOT are coming from.

From my personal experience, I started watching game of thrones back in 2012, when it had two seasons released and then I skipped it for the last 4 years and I had not watched a single episode of it.
So over the weekend and late night I had some catching up to do and felt like watching the GoT from where I left.

The reason why GoT is different from every other serial (I am not comparing it with Indian Televison at all), is that it has some pace on every episode. Firstly, It sells at its multiple plotline. There is no plotline at all, there are just multiple stories being weaved over the course of time and connecting them to each other. The icing on the cake is sudden twists in the plot that brings out the excitement to watch one more episode. GoT keeps the story hanging for long. If you calculate, 6 seasons with 8-10 episodes, thats like more than 60 hours of television and we are still not able to understand whats happening. The story is devised in such a way that it has no end. Its not the inevitable war between good and bad. There are no two warring elements who would clash with each other and there would climactic battle.

So here`s to GOT and many more murders to come.

Why Farmer Suicides can't be ignored anymore?

With Indian Media's misplaced reporting priorities and bull run after the TRPs, We have chosen to ignore the people who feed us. THE INDIAN FARMER

I and many others may not be experts about this topic. But being on Social Media you stumble upon so many stories and have an opinion on almost anything from Apple`s iphone 6 to Donald Trump, even though you know very little about the whole story. In all this overload of stupid, crappy, shitty information we miss out on something which is extremely important and a huge crisis.

On this lazy afternoon, I came across the story of Nana Patekar giving out cheques to the widows of the farmers who committed suicides.  The message was circulated on Social Media with a claim "Don`t commit suicide call me, Ill help you". I have to confess at this point of time, had this been someone else I would have chose to ignore it. Nana Patekar, a veteran actor and an honest man saying this was extremely heart warming. This was such a powerful message that it opened the eyes on a topic which was looming for ten years. This was our "Alyan Kurdi Moment".

Digging bit deeper, Nana Patekar has not only asked people to donate money but to spend a day or two with the villagers and understand their problems. As it is rightly said, Philanthropy  in India is not signing cheques but it is much more than that. It is an emotional help rather financial one.

Tacking the problem on its face, farmers have committed suicide due to various reasons. The primary reason being the drought like situation. Low pricing of grains, loans & debts, gambling issues are other reasons. An 11 billion dollar irrigation scam was truly a setback for the farmers and production of sugar canes, which has caused low fertile lands, these being the political obstacles. Coming to the last but the most important point, Relief packages not reaching the farmers.

Here`s what we can do,we can directly send money to the following bank details.

Current Account Number: 35226127148
IFSC Code No: SBIN 0006319
Swift Code No: SBININBB238
Now that we have money, and a man like Nana Patekar, my wishes with him and the whole team.
